MODERN UPCOUNTRY MAKEOVER

This landscape needed an urgent makeover for a couple of busy working professionals. Two important aspects for the owners were curb appeal and low maintenance for the front and a plan for the extensive steep sloped space in the rear which leads to a deep valley. The rear needed major erosion mitigation as well as the installation of several fruit and citrus trees.

Easy accessibility to both the front and back garden was also important, plus an area for the family dog to play. Tricky slopes were managed with tropical foliage plantings, blending in with existing banana groves. From the front bridge looking down into the side glades, Mamaki and Pomegranate were incorporated with several varieties of Hawaiian Gingers, Raphis Palms, CordylineT-leaf, giving a sense of a tropical shaded jungle feel.

In the rear, the steep slope down to the valley was cleared, new irrigation lines installed, and substantial amounts of vetiver were added to stabilize the slope and terrain. Several citrus and dwarf avocado trees were planted along the back border for easy access from the house. A safe fenced off dog run area was incorporated in the back.
